Leslie Whitney, the principal interior designer of Designs Of Aqua Bay Inc. graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY with a BFA, Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1981. Leslie is an Allied Member of ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers and is certified LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design as well as a member of the USGBC, the US Green Building Council. Designs Of Aqua Bay Inc. supports the Woods Hole Research Center, ranked the world’s #1 climate change think tank.
After working full time for firms in MA and NYC as well as doing freelance design for showrooms and hotels, Leslie started her own company in 2002. Leslie has developed a team of professionals throughout locations on Cape Cod and on the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. This creative collaboration between the interior designer, architect, builder and talented artisans gives clients a very positive experience and a high quality result.
One inspiration came to Leslie on a beach while contemplating how to get comfortable furniture onto a tropical island where it seemed that there were none anywhere one stayed, so she decided to bring her design company to the Caribbean. Since then, Leslie has worked on villas and restaurants on St. John as well as on the British Virgin Islands.
In 2011, another inspiration came on a flight from the Virgin Islands back to Boston. Leslie sat next to an architect who was working on the BVI’s with Sir Richard Branson. Branson’s work has always had an influential impact on her; Leslie and the architect discussed the effect that climate change was having on the planet and the islands in particular and he told her about LEED and the USGBC. Leslie went on to become LEED certified and a member of the USGBC, hoping to assist even in just a small way, to continue their inspirational work.
“”When our loved ones and grandchildren ask us what we did to help keep our planet healthy, we will be able to look them in the eye when we respond to them honestly.”
Leslie’s Inspiration; “Positive, intriguing and kind individuals; creating beauty and transformations with love and respect for nature and the planet, our precious home.”
